Rather than waste my time watching TV shows all day, I thought it would be a good opportunity to take a look at Pico8 and learn from the ground up how to make oldschool games on this platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>My first exercise on Pico8 was to create a \u00ab\u00a0coach-o-matic\u00a0\u00bb so that I wouldn&rsquo;t have to count seconds and series during my rehabilitation exercises ^^ This allowed me to take my first steps in discovering Lua, thanks to the invaluable tutorials by Aur\u00e9lien from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@GameDevAlliance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@GameDevAlliance\">GameDevAlliance<\/a> (in French) and then especially Kristian from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@LazyDevs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@LazyDevs\">LazyDevs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, one of the first cases of learning how to make a game is the space shooter&#8230; It&rsquo;s not that I&rsquo;m a big fan of the genre, but I must admit that I really wanted to try to make a differential starfield (the starry background) as pretty as possible (given the limitations of the console).<br>So I started with that&#8230; then one thing led to another and I learned a lot, with each micro-function being a little challenge and a learning experience!<br>This hobby certainly helped make my hospital stay less painful as it was great fun to gradually learn pico8 and regain my bipedal status at the same time !<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"512\" src=\"http:\/\/spaceoid.potof.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/spaceWheelChair.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-240\" style=\"border-radius:40px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spaceoid.potof.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/spaceWheelChair.jpg 512w, https:\/\/spaceoid.potof.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/spaceWheelChair-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/spaceoid.potof.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/spaceWheelChair-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-50446695 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button has-custom-font-size is-style-outline has-huge-font-size is-style-outline--1\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-border-color has-main-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"\/game\/latest\/\" style=\"border-radius:41px;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Play online<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a serious accident, I was in hospital for several months.
